Preservation

Respect for original material.

With vintage Speedmasters, restraint can be more valuable than an immaculate new appearance.

Our approach

Not every trace has to disappear.

A service can be technically thorough and visually restrained. With older Speedmasters, this balance is often essential.

We discuss original parts, visible ageing and historical details with you before considering an irreversible intervention. Replacement, cleaning or refinishing is not automatically the best answer.

What we look for

Six areas where care matters.

01 / Luminous material

Secure rather than replace prematurely

Fragile luminous material in old hands can often be secured from the back. This preserves their appearance and prevents loose material from putting the movement at risk.

02 / Hands & Dial

Understand patina

Surfaces, lettering and aged finishes are delicate. We carefully assess what cleaning, if any, is appropriate, and discuss replacement beforehand.

03 / Bezel & Insert

Respect collector value

An old bezel insert can be rare and difficult to replace. We do not treat it as an ordinary consumable and avoid unnecessary intervention.

04 / Case

Preserve the edges

We always add material by welding when refinishing a case. This allows us to preserve the shape and edges and, in some cases, compensate for previous incorrect refinishing. We decide together how far the refinishing should go.

05 / Original parts

No surprises

Before any possible replacement, we explain the technical reasons and the effects on originality. The agreed work sets the direction.

06 / Movement

Do not neglect the mechanism

Preservation also means reliable operation. Mechanical wear is assessed professionally and addressed with appropriate measures.

Case

Faithful form before shine at any cost.

A polished watch can look fresh at first glance. If its edges and proportions are lost in the process, much has been sacrificed. We therefore treat the case and bezel as designed elements of the original watch.

When refinishing a case, we always add material by welding before restoring its shape and finish. This allows us to preserve the edges and sometimes compensate for earlier incorrect refinishing. We discuss with you what is achievable and appropriate for your Speedmaster's particular case.
